We support responsible growth and business development in the Town of Moreau. Our community made it clear that Saratoga Biochar Solutions and projects that will have negative impacts to resident's quality of life and our environment will not be accepted.
Following a moratorium set by the Town Board under the leadership of Supervisor Fish, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation denied SBS its permits. We believe this is partly because of the facts in the case, and partly as a result of pressure applied by members of our community.
The issue of growing and processing cannabis in the Town arose in 2024. The Town Board also passed a moratorium on these activities, allowing time for the Office of Cannabis Management at NYS to review and act on unauthorized activities taking place in the Town of Moreau. In both cases, long-overdue zoning law updates are in the works to ensure new industries, unforeseen in the 1980s, cannot set up operations in the Town and cause unintended consequences.
We will continue to listen to our residents and move forward in welcoming projects that are right for our town and with no negative quality of life or environmental impacts. We will take whatever action is necessary to assure that facilities such as these, that have such far-reaching, negative impacts on our environment and our resident's quality of life are not located in our town.
